The purpose of the book is to provide an understanding of how trade conflicts and the inequalities that come with them are created in the global economy. The authors' arguments are that trade wars are class wars between elites and workers within countries, which create increasing inequalities between classes in countries, disrupting the global economy and threatening international peace.
