Abstract

In this study, a research was conducted on the effects of TiN coating using the physical vapour deposition method on wear behaviour of AISI 3343 steel which is extensively used in the molding sector. Wear tests were done with an instrument of pin-on-disk, under the loads of 5 and 10 N, at a sliding speed of 0.4 m/s over sliding distances of 500, 750, and 1000 m. Besides, mechanical characteristics and metallographical analyses were accomplished. Test results revealed that the TiN-coated sample has a smaller coefficient of friction and a smaller rate of wear than that of the uncoated samples.
