In recent years, the world has witnessed a rapid development in the electronic device industry and modern energy systems. Power quality (PQ) is one of the most important topics that have preoccupied the thinking of engineers working in the field of electric power. There are many disturbances that affect electrical power quality (PQ), including harmonics, sag, swell, transience, interruptions, waveform distortions and flicker. These disturbances directly affect sensitive loads, thus leading to financial and morale losses for consumers. In this case, we consider custom power devices as being important to solve power quality problems. Included among these devices are the distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM), the unified power quality conditioner (UPQC), the active ability filter (AAF), the uninterruptible power supply (UPS), the thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) and the dynamic voltage restorer (DVR). The DVR device is one of the most important power devices and the best of these devices to protect consumer equipment from any sudden changes in frequency, voltage and current due to its rapid response, its ability to compensate, its small size as well as its low cost in comparison to other devices. In this paper, our work analyzes and makes a detailed review of the components of a DVR device using MATLAB/SIMULINK. We also analyze and review the control methods available by proportional integrator (PI) with pulse width modulation (PWM) for the device. In addition, we selected the best section for the control strategies and the performance optimization capability of the device, as well as a detailed explanation for researchers in this field.
